The official SES warning is stark: "You may be trapped without power, water, and other essential services, and it may be too dangerous for us to rescue you."
Looking ahead, the week's forecast for the east coast is varied. Sydney can expect mild temperatures and the odd shower, while Brisbane and Melbourne will see warmer days, with Melbourne's temperatures set to soar by Saturday.
