A home in Langley was the site of a shooting incident linked to extortion, according to local police. This unsettling event unfolded early on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at approximately 5:17 a.m., when officers from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) responded to reports of gunfire in the 6900 block of 232 Street.
Sgt. Zynal Sharoom of the Langley RCMP provided a statement indicating that preliminary investigations suggest the incident is related to extortion activities. The police are collaborating with various partner agencies to explore potential connections to other ongoing investigations. "Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of this alarming shooting," Sharoom noted.
Authorities have determined that the suspects arrived at the scene in a dark-colored sedan and quickly left the area following the shooting, raising concerns about the premeditated nature of this act.
This targeted residence houses one of the two properties owned by a family associated with Chohan Freight Forwarders, a trucking company currently embroiled in legal disputes with the B.C. government due to incidents involving their drivers and overpass collisions in the Lower Mainland. However, it remains unclear if this company is specifically being targeted or what might be motivating this attack.
In response to inquiries about possible connections between this shooting and the recent overpass strikes, Sharoom refrained from naming individuals involved, citing privacy concerns, while emphasizing that investigators are actively looking into any potential links.
"At this moment, we are confident that extortion is at the heart of this case," he stated, urging anyone with pertinent information to reach out to the Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200 and reference file number 2026-722.
Interestingly, just a day prior, on January 7, another shooting occurred at a home in Delta, which is also believed to be tied to extortion-related motives.
As this situation unfolds, it raises significant questions about the prevalence of extortion in the community and how such incidents could escalate. What do you think motivates these acts? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
